Semester Final Exam Part 2 and 3

PART 2

There is a shooting down town but we don't know yet who's responsible for it and why they are doing this. This is a photograph taken of a man shot dead for not paying a depth he owed.

The firefighters are still trying to take out the fire caused by a bonfire celebration. This man was caught in the middle of the fire and has been trying to get out.

A festival, packed with people is taking place on the north side of town. A monk had decided that it was a good idea to protest as he ran around the festival

PART 3

This photograph shows framing because the plants around the girl are serving as a framing tool for the main object, which is the woman standing in the middle. There is nothing in the background that could distract the viewer from the main object. Every time the viewer would look at it, their eye would be attracted to the woman because of her surroundings.

This photograph is viewpoint because it is not being shot from someone's eye level, it is being shot from a viewpoint going up. Which makes him look like he is much more superior.

It is also mergers because it doesn't avoid them and if you look at his hands and the background towards the sun, it makes it look like he's emitting magic from his hands.
This photograph is mostly framing because the people on the sides are framing the dog who is running down the middle. Even though the viewer's eye might be attracted to the people on the sides, their eyes will always go back to the dog running down the middle.
It is also somewhat leading lines because the lines on the floor make the dog seem like the main subject.

This photograph of the broken clock is mostly background because there is nothing in the background to distract the viewer's eyes from focusing on the main subject, the clock. Even through the background is lighter it still brings out the clock so that the viewer will pay more attention to the clock.

The Three Pillars of Exposure: Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed

Aperture:

F2.8

1.   We should closely relate aperture to our eyes.

2.   The smaller the Aperture the the larger the f-stop, the higher the Aperture the lower the f-stop.

F8
3.    The size of the Aperture impacts the depth of field, a larger f-stop number will make the background and the main object be in focus but a smaller f-stop number will only bring the object in focus.

Shutter Speed:

High Shutter Speed
1.
At the beginning while the sun is still partially up and the courtyard has reasonable light
     a.) the dunking booth
     b.) the food eating contest
     c.) the rock climbing wall

Towards the end when there is no sun and it is dark so there is not enough light to see from one end of the courtyard to the other.
d.) someone working at a booth
e.) the DJ/MC working at the middle of the circle
     f.) the Diamonds performance
Slow Shutter Speed
2. "Auto"
   "Shutter Priority"
   "Manual"

Self Portrait and Portraits Reviews

  1. Try standing by a corner
  2. Background is key
  3. Candids: Being unobtrusive
Environmental portrait
I like how his room is decorated and how he is sitting there watching something completely ignoring the fact that there's a camera there taking a photograph of him. I choose it because it looks so natural, like something he would be doing on a regular basis.

I love how the scenery looks, the background makes her stand out and look like she's in a fairy tale, even though she's mounting a toy horse. I chose it because of how her unique style.

Casual Portrait
I like how they're all smiling and looking at the camera, and some are even somewhat posing. I chose it because it seems to be like a family portrait.
I like how she's hugging her friend/boyfriend and looking at the camera with a smile. I chose this photograph because it looks like a casual portrait of two people.

Formal Portrait
I like how the baby looks, his eyes reflecting the light. I chose it because it looks like a very formal portrait of a baby, kinda like one of those professional photographs parents go take of their babies.

I like how he's dressed all cute and sitting in a chair and there's a teddy bear next to him. I chose it because it looks like a very formal portrait of a child, kinda like one of those professional photographs parents go take of their toddlers.

100 Cool Self Portraits
I like the scenery, how the snow is flying all around her and how she's staring at it and looking all natural. I chose it because of the how the background makes her glow.

I like how the background is all dark and how he's jumping  holding the flash of the camera. I chose it because of how entertaining it looks and how it looks like he's having fun.
I am not so sure how I want it to go at the moment. I don't really like planning ahead, I get inspired as I do things.

Great Black and White Photographers Part 3

What caught my eye about his photographs was that they seemed so clear and still looked quite beautiful even though they were in black and white. They looked so detailed and they had a flow-y feeling about them.

I See
I see a rose just resting on top of what seems like wood, probably a bench or a branch. It seems like the rose has already fully bloomed and it's waiting for its time to come. I can see its soft petals curving the way they're supposed to.
I see a curvy river making ripples in the water as it flows, tall mountains covered in a white blanket of snow, trees surrounding the river, clouds scattered all around almost covering the sun, and light seeping through the stubborn clouds, illuminating the river, mountains and trees with its brightness.

I Smell
I smell the unique scent the rose produces that enhances its beauty. I also smell the wood this rose rests on.
I smell the trees that give oxygen to the world. I also smell the snow that rests on top of the mountains, and the water's fresh and relaxing scent.

I Hear
I hear the wind blowing softly through the petals, and the rustling of the petals. I hear the rose's petals rubbing against the roughness of the wood.
I hear the river flowing freely as it creates little waves. I can hear the birds chirping at the warmth and refreshing feel. I can hear the wind blowing past the trees' leaves, branches, and water.

I Taste
I taste the rose's soft petals, its soft and slightly sweet petals
I taste the cold and fresh water. I taste the air around. I can also taste the cold snow of the mountains.

I Feel
I can feel the softness of the rose as I run my fingers over each petal. I can also feel the roughness of the wood and the splintering feel it gives if you run your fingers over it the wrong way.
I can feel the wetness of the water and the waves, as I run my hand through the water, trying to push my hand back. The softness of the leaves and the roughness of the branches on the trees around. I can feel the warmth of the light as it shines down on the scene. I can also feel the freezing coldness of the snow that lays on the hard and rocky mountains.

I would create a blog with information about him and his photographs

Quick Write: Brave 06 Nov. 2013

I once had to walk home while it was dark, with my dog. It was a long walk too. I think that's pretty brave.

Academics Shoot Preview

The Story
This tells the story of kids being charitable and giving to others. Doing some community service.

Action and Emotion
The action and emotion in this photograph is that something exciting happened and the girls are showing emotions of surprise and amazement.
Filling the frame
This photograph fills the frame with kids around something that's flooded with some type of smoke, like a lab, looking at it in amusement.
  1. I picked this photograph because I like how it shows the kid surrounded by books studying in a library.
  2. Framing because he is being framed by the book shelves of the library, and simplicity are evident in this photograph.

  1. I could go to the library to take pictures of the students studying, the courtyard, some science classrooms, math classrooms.
  2. I would go to my chemistry teacher's classroom.
  3. I would make sure to get some of the rules in my shoots.

Quick Write: Scariest Sounds 31 Oct. 2013

Like a tapping or knocking sound on the walls and ground without anyone physicaly making those noises. Terrified screams of poor souls.

Quick Write: 29 Oct. 2013

The walls of my room are a slightly darkish beige colour, with one wall covered in posters, a bookshelf on the other wall, and another shelf on another wall. The bookshelf is filled with manga books, regular books, movies and video games, and the other shelf is filled with CDs and other useless things. There's like a yellowish/brownish hardwood floor. My bed mattress is on the floor, next to it is a little radio stereo, and on the foot side of the bed there's some drawers with a lamp and a basket on top of it. On the other side of the room there's another shelf on the floor that holds my TV, printer, laptop, game consoles, and an old dvd player. Oh and there's also a body mirror that kinda really freaks me out.

Composition Photos

Simplicity

Rule of Thirds

Leading Lines

Contrasting

Balance

Repetition

Purpose to Photography: Africa

As I was looking through the powerpoint I thought that most of the photographs were very neat and good. There was like one or two that didn't quite convinced me but overall it was great.

It looks like there is an elephant just standing there in the middle of like a forest. The trees look so beautiful as does the elephant. It's my favorite one because it kinda reminds me of some sort of fairy-tale like setting or like some fantasy world. It was the only one that stood out for me and caught my attention.

Frame because the trees frame the elephant.
Simplicity because the elephant is the main focus of the picture.
Lines, the lines of the trees make the eye focus on the elephant.

  • He uses a Pentax 67II with only two fixed lenses.
  • His reason for taking the photos is that he wants to show the animals in their state of Being, before they no longer are, before they cease to exist; before "they are destroyed by the hands of man."
  • His hope is "that the photos might have some emotional impact on people - that in a minor way, they come away more aware that there is a sentience to those creatures, that those animals are not so different from us"
  • "You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit; you'd move in closer"

Elements of Art & Principles of Design in Photography

Elements of Art

  1. Line - marks made by a tool and can vary in width, direction, curvature, length, or color.
  2. Shape - are formed wherever the ends of a continuous line meet. Geometric shapes uniform measurements and don't often appear in nature. Organic shapes are associated with things from the natural world.
  3. Color  - color wheels show the primary colors, secondary colors, and the tertiary colors. They also who the relationships between complementary colors across from each other, and analogous colors next to each other.
  4. Value (Tone) - refers to dark and light. It helps us to see and understand a two-dimensional work of art
  5. Form - describes objects that are three-dimensional, having length, width, and height.
  6. Texture - refers to the surface quality, both simulated and actual, of artwork.
  7. Space - refers to distances or areas around, between, or within components of a piece. It can be positive or negative, open or closed, shallow or deep, and two-dimensional or three-dimensional.

Principles of Design

  1. Balance - is the comfortable or pleasing arrangement of things in art. There are 3 different types of balance: symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radia.
  2. Contrast - created by using elements that conflict with one another, and it is often created using complementary colors or extremely light & dark values.
  3. Emphasis - The focal area of an artwork that gives it importance
  4. Movement - means the artist is taking viewers on a trip through the work by means of edges, shapes, and colors that often lead to the focal areas. It is a visual flow through the composition.
  5. Pattern - is when the same shapes or elements are repeated again and again.
  6. Rhythm - is the repetition of shapes, lines and forms, it is a movement in which some elements recurs regularly
  7. Unity - means that all the elements in artwork are in harmony.

Elements of Art and Principles of Design
Line, shape, color, value, form, texture, space, balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, and unity.

I chose this photo because it shows most of the elements of art and principles of design. The clear lines, the different shapes, most of the colors of the color wheel, it kinda shows objects that are three-dimensional, the spaces are positive throughout the painting. Also the arrangement of its balance is pleasing.
